letters from impacted students
Dear Bob,
When you came to my school, RCB, I was about to end my life. I did not have any thing left to do except take up space in everyone's daily lives. I felt useless. I was going to end my life on my birthday which is coming up on September 26. I had already prepared to hang myself with my own computer cord. It was only a matter of time. On my birthday I asked Christ to save me instead of ending it all.
Your Newest Friend,
David Corder.
Bob,
I was planning my death a few nights ago, and prior to meeting you today, I cut my wrist twice Tuesday night. However I'm not the least bit ashamed to say that I will no longer continue to self mutilate because of you! I'm so grateful that you came to the school today. All my life, I've just wanted to meet someone who showed that they truly care whether I'm alive or if I just disappear suddenly. You sir have shown me that there is hope and staying alive is worth it.
Bob,
Thank you so much for coming to school and Franklin County high on Thursday. Your message opened my eyes and changed my life, thank you so much. Unlike other rallies, your message really hit home because it was built around our generation and the problems we face today. You know how to reach teens and to teach them a life changing lesson. After hearing your message I made a life changing decision.
Thank you, again.
Amy
Hello Bob,
My name is Brittany and I am a student at a school that you came and talked to this week. For the last couple of years, I have had a difficult time. I've been bullied by people I thought were my friends, by guys who as you put it so graciously, thought I was a 'sex object'. Before your speech, I had been cutting on my hip to the point that the tiniest scratch would make it bleed once more. And I have thought about suicide. I have tried once before, but I got scared and decided against it until I had worked up enough nerve. I was going to do it soon. But your speech changed that. I realized that I should just find new motivation and that there ARE some people who care about my well being. When I got home that day, I went and threw away the blade I had been using to cut. I just wanted to thank you for what you said. It saved me. I will never forget it.
Bob,
Hearing your message today at my school has touched me so much. It has made me rethink about all the things I could have done and said to make just one person want to keep pushing forward against the odds. Going to your assembly I didn't know what to think, BEFORE YOU CAME TO MY SCHOOL I figured it'd be just another assembly to get me out of class, but instead you spoke a life-changing message and a message I needed to hear, lately I've been down and thinking nothing is going to work out. Seeing the pictures of the girl burnt in the car has made me want to become a paramedic/fire rescue even more, I want to help save people from their dangers, Thank you so much for coming to our school. I hope you can continue to visit more schools with your message.
God Bless,
Samantha
Hi Bob,
My name is J. T. Davis, I am a Freshman at Allen County Scottsville High School, you came to my school in November. I just want to say that you have really shown the light to many people in my school including me! I am so thankful you came! I ABSOLUTELY LOVED YOUR MESSAGE! You do may not know this but there are many here that do not believe in Jesus and several that drink, smoke, and much more. That breaks my heart but I think that today you have caused many to stop and look toward God. You brought a new thing an exciting thing. I extremely liked how you drawled our attention to you by starting off with the games! That was a marvelous idea, I would like for you to come back down to Scottsville to spread your message more because I can tell you this... Your message was AMAZING! It was sad but true...
Hello Bob,
You visited my school about a month ago. I have struggled with cutting and suicidal thoughts a lot last year. This year I tried really hard not to cut and even though I have contemplated suicide, it would go away when something good happened. I grew up in a Christian home and was home schooled up to this January. Two weeks ago lost a journal entry about suicide. The school found out that it was mine and I had to talk to the principal. Today I found your pamphlet on the floor in one of the classrooms. While I've never been bullied, I have felt most of the feelings listed in the pamphlet. Your message kinda woke me up about life and gave me a new sense of hope.
Thanks,
Jonathan

Dear Bob,
You just recently came to my school, saying that Chandlers elementary had the best junior volleyball team. Thanks my sis was on the team. She was the only one not wearing black and purple!. You told the school about the commercials, and the teenagers being suicidal. And the stories about the 2 boys and the trash bag, the girl who killed herself because her name was written on the bathroom wall, and about the woman who was burned almost to death. How could she be trying to get her burner out of jail!. I literally leaned over to my friend and said "I wouldn't do that!" But I was wrong. At the end, you said you were proud to be a Christian. THANK YOU!! Almost everybody today shies away from God, just to be popular. I'm proud to be a Christian too. Whatever gets you first, age(no offense) or other people, DON'T STOP! You have become my idol. At first, I thought you may have said a few inappropriate things, like with the boy with aids, but now I know that was necessary. People like me have to know that and if we don't, we'll end up like that man in jail crying. I had to pretend there was something in my eye the whole time you talked about it. You have totally changed my life. From a kid that was touched by your extraordinary words.
THANK YOU FOR MAKING A DIFFERENCE IN MY LIFE!!!😊
Dear Bob,
Let me tell you about me: I was raped several times when I was six. My mom was a drug addict and my dad never wanted me. Mom was 16 when she got pregnant with me and she was going to get an abortion, but my grandmother wouldn't let her. So she resorted to doing even more drugs during her pregnancy. As a result, I am blind in my left eye, have multiple heart problems (There's a fatal chance of my heart conditions) and a rare water allergy called Auquagenic Urticaria (Unsure if the last is drug related) and many many other problems. I must be missing a chromosome or two, because I'm the most intelligent fourteen year old you'll find!
I have slow reflexes and I was taken away from my mom when I was four. I went to live with my foster family and my step mom only abused me worse. I lived there for a year and nine months. But I'm living with my mom and step dad now. I just want to say thank you for showing love and care for millions of people you don't even know! You're a true inspiration and I hope to become as great as you are one day!! All it took was you saying "I care about each and every one of your lives" and you've seriously saved another one! I can't thank you enough!!!
Hey Bob. I am a sophomore at Franklin Simpson High School. My name is Meredith. The day before you came to our school I was planning on going home today and writing out my suicide letter, I knew that I would probably chicken out but there's always that chance. You gave me hope. You made me feel like my life was important and actually made a difference to someone; and for that I thank you. I also wanted to thank you for the prescription card you gave us. My brother has diabetes and we couldn't pay for his meds before we got it. I came up to you crying, shook your hand and said thank you. But I didn't tell you any of this, so I am now.
Thank you!
Mari
Sir,
I just wanted to let you know. Your message saved my life, it really did. The day you came to my school I wanted to die so bad. I had it planned out and everything. My parents fight, non-stop. I blame myself for it. I just got out of a bad relationship too, and I know this sounds bad. I had everything planned out. I was going to go home and take a bunch of pills. But when you came and gave that speech it made me think of what’s ahead. I love what you do, it is amazing!!
People think that kids that cut themselves are just doing it for attention and adults and other people don't really understand that, i'm happy that you came to our school today. A year or so ago i met this girl online and she was the sweetest thing ever, she was being bullied and was about to commit suicide. I spent all night talking to her, making sure she doesn't go through with it, and i'm glad i spent that time, she in fact is still alive to this day, i'm glad i could have helped her.
A while back i wanted to run away from home because the problems were really bad at home, but thank you for today, keep going on with what you're doing, please keep spreading the word.
Dear Mr. Holmes,
You were at our Middle School on Thurs. March 14. I truly enjoyed your program, but especially the last part of it when you told the students that you are a Christian. We get very few speakers who will admit that, which is a shame because students need to hear it.
The students know my standing as a Christian and many of them will come to me and ask for prayer for their family members or friends. I'm an English teacher and use Biblical sentences to teach grammar. Unfortunately, we can't speak openly about Christianity but when I started doing this, some of the kid's eyes bug out as many know they are Biblical sentences. I have done this for 20+ years and I've never had a problem with a parent. Thank you again for being at our school.
